Dr. Yan Zhang is Principal Investigator and professor of Glycobiology & Glycomics Lab,and the director of SCSB(China)-AIST(Japan) Joint Medical Glycomics Laboratory at Shanghai Center for Systems Biomedicine. She has been awarded Shanghai Pujiang Research Fellowship in 2007. Her research focuses on the study of protein O-glycosylation, revealing the regulation mechanism and biological significance of precise protein glycosylation in various biological process. The main research directions include as follows: 1) uncover biological functions of O-GalNAc glycosyltransferase (ppGalNAc-T) in tumor and neurodevelopment, 2) develop novel glycobiomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis in colorectal cancer, lung cancer, liver fibrosis, Alzheimer's disease and other diseases, and 3) synthesize homogenized human glycoproteins with precise and uniform glycosylation.
Dr. Zhang has authored more than 70 articles in peer reviewed international journals, including Journal of Biological Chemistry, Glycobiology, ACS Catalysis, Chemical Communications, Proteomics, Journal of Proteome Research, Journal of Proteomics, Science, Liver International, and etc.. She has filed 8 patent applications, and among them 5 patents for O-glycotransferase and biomarkers have been awarded. She has been invited to give more than 20 presentations at recognized national and international conferences. She has served as a grant reviewer for Ministry of Science and Technology of China, Ministry of Education of China, and etc.
